Chapter 905: Evened Out
Ranita woke up again to find that it was already dark outside.
The hospital room was empty and quiet, making her feel as if she were dreaming. Suddenly, the door opened, revealing a figure dressed in white.
Ranita stared at the visitor in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
“Ranita, I heard you weren’t feeling well, so I came to check on you.” Shannon always carried an air of fragility, and her ethereal clothing made her look like a wealthy heiress untouched by the mundane world.
As Shannon approached, the necklace Brendon had bought at an auction hung around her neck. It was a heavy piece of jewelry, but on her, it looked neither ostentatious nor gaudy, just exceptionally luxurious.
“Are you feeling better?”
“Do you need something?” Ranita responded coldly. She didn’t want to engage with Shannon; talking to her felt like a waste of breath.
Shannon moved closer, speaking softly. “Ranita, don’t be so cold! I came to see you out of kindness. Shouldn’t you be happy?”
“Oh, and my burns have healed a lot. Thanks for your and Brendon’s care.”
Shannon’s smile was sweet, but there was a coldness at the corners of her lips.
Ranita smirked. “Shannon, your tactics are always so disgusting.”
“Ranita, don’t slander me! I was standing there minding my own business when you pushed me, causing the burn.”
“I have witnesses to my injury because of you. Are you still trying to shirk responsibility?”
Ranita was speechless.
She really didn’t want to argue with Shannon, but Shannon was infuriating.
“Shannon, don’t you have any sense of what happened? When did I push you? Brendon isn’t here; there’s no need for this act.”
“You’re not welcome here. Please leave.”
Ranita’s hand hovered over the call button. “If you don’t leave, I’ll call someone.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Shannon smiled calmly. “Ranita, you’re really ungrateful for my concern. Remember what I said last time.”
Last time Shannon had threatened her, and Ranita had retorted: “Shannon, I’ve told you before, if you dare touch my family, I won’t let you off.”
“Get out!”
Shannon’s expression didn’t change as she poured a glass of water for Ranita. “Ranita, don’t be so angry…”
She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a sinister whisper. “Ranita, I’ve said my piece. You’d better watch yourself.”
“Shannon! How dare you!” As she spoke, Shannon splashed the water in her face! Shannon looked at her innocently. “Sorry, my hand slipped!”
Ranita raised her hand and slapped Shannon hard without hesitation.
“Smack!” The slap landed heavily on Shannon’s face. She froze for a moment before covering her face and glaring at Ranita with hatred. “Ranita!”
“Oh dear, sorry… my hand slipped too!” Ranita paused and then smiled. “Now we’re even!”
“Ranita! You’ll pay for this!” Shannon sneered and stormed out. “Just wait!”
Already sick, Ranita’s head throbbed painfully from the confrontation.
She called a nurse to finish her IV drip and then took a cab home without waiting for Jedidiah to pick her up. Her body felt weak, and her legs wobbled like noodles as she walked.
After a few steps, her phone rang.
“Ranita, where are you?” Jedidiah’s voice was unusually harsh and angry. “Are you out of your mind? You’re sick!”
