Chapter 22
Chapter 22
A sense of dread washed over Roseanne, she could only marry into the Sullivan family through Jeffrey, and she couldn’t afford to wreck her image in his eyes. Her only move now was to play dumb, to insist she had no idea how the ring ended up in her bag, to suggest that Cynthia had planted it there with ill intent Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
“It was her. She got close to me on purpose and then slipped the ring into my bag she pointed to Cynthia and told the police officers, “Sir, she’s my stepsister. We live together, and she quietly put the ring in my bag so she could take it out later at home when I wasn’t looking. This way, she can get the ring without any risk.”
Everyone knew Roseanne was the Larson family’s eldest daughter and had heard about Cynthia, whs had recently been brought back from the countryside. One was the family’s jewel, the other nothing more than a country bumpkin. Clearly, the latter had the motive to commit the crime. Eventually, all parties involved were taken to the police station.
Meanwhile, at the international airport in Antharia, Liam had just disembarked from his flight, with Ziv closely in tow. His phone suddenly rang “Mr. Sullivan, it seems Mrs. Sullivan has encountered trouble? Ziv pulled up a video on his phone that had just come through. It showed Cynthia being taken away by the police in a jewelry store.
After watching the video. Liam’s aura instantly chilled. “Dare to touch my woman. They must have a death wish.”
Back in Auroran, Alexander Kirby, the chief of police, who was resting in a woman’s arms, got a call. Upon grasping the situation, he immediately bolted for the police station while pondering. This bag shot is usually overseas, isn’t he? How come he suddenly get married? What kind of woman has caught his eyel
At the police station, Roseanne was still slandering Cymbia, attempting to nim black into white with her forked tongue
Given that she was engaged to Jeffrey, everyone was inclined in side with her. That was until the door burst open and Alexander walked in, prompting every officer to stand and salute,
The Sullivan family had connections with Alexander, so Jeffrey also stood up and respectfully greeted him.
Roseanne, catching on quickly, also chiruped. “Hello, Mr. Kirby
In the room, only Cynthia remained seated, unfazed.
Alexander’s gaze swept over everyone in the room, contemplating who Liam’s wife might be. There were only two unfamiliar women present, one garishly made–up and clad in brand names, while the other sat in casual attire, her cool and refreshing demeanor contrasting her clear and stunningly natural beauty. This should be the woman he’d choose, thought Alexander.
are you Ms. Cynthia Larson?”
Wearing a smile, Alexander stood beside Cynthia and leaned down, tempering his voice as he asked, “Excuse me, are you Cynthia nodded.
“My apologies for today’s inconvenience. Me men fumbled. Someone will be here shortly to pick you up.” His voice couldn’t be more gentle.
Everyone was dumbfounded. The typically tough and aloof police chief now seemed to be treading on eggshells, donning an obsequious smile as if fearful of startling Cynthia.
This was not how things were supposed to unfold. Counting on the two families‘ rapport, Jeffrey stepped forward to seek justice for his fiancée. “This woman is a habitual thief and should be
locked up.”
The moment his words landed, Alexander gave him a stern glare. Nonsense. Everyone here is a suspect, except her
Cynthia was momentarily taken aback. This chief she had never met before was protecting her so firmly. Clearly, someone had reminded him. And there was only Liam who had such influence– thinking of him brought a sweet surge through her heart.
Still not willing to relent, Jeffrey attempted to use the Sullivan family’s status to pressure Alexander into punishing Cynthia. In his eyes, Cynthia was just a nobody from the countryside, nowhere near their level.
“Mr. Kirby, this is my fiancee, the future Sullivan family bride. She was wrongly accused of theft today. Please, punish the real culprit: Jeffrey’s expression was adamant, convinced Alexander would, in the end, respect the Sullivan family’s wishes.
Alexander was exasperated with Jeffrey’s cluelessness, Liam had instructed him to ensure the other party got a taste of hardship
Jeffrey was a Sullivan, so Alexander couldn’t lay a finger on him. Instead, his focus shifted to Roseanne. “The ring vanished when it was n hand, and then it turned up in your purse. And now you’re trying to pin the theft on this wou
Upon hearing this, Roseanne’s face hired ashen. She knew exactly what Alexander meant–he was out to save Cynthia. Desperate, she quickly tried to curry favor. “Mr. Kirby, I am Jeffrey’s fiancée”
But Alexander showed no sympathy. “Being accused of stealing valuable items is no minor allegation. Whether or not you’re still his fiancée after today is up for debate. He then motioned to
his men, “Take her to the interrogation room.”
Roseanne was whisked away, and at that moment, an elderly man with a worried look burst in. It was Darian. He’d received a call from Liam and hadn’t wasted a second before rushing over. “My apologies for the distress this has caused. Mrs. Sullivan,
Cynthia greeted Darian softly before she stood up to address Alexander. “May I go now?”
“Of course, you must have suffered greatly”
As he watched the two leave, Jeffrey felt that the man who had just picked up Cynthia seemed familiar. He thought. It appears that Cynthia has found herself a powerful benefactor. But in all of Auroran, who could possibly hold a candle to the Sullivan family? It was just then that he felt a heavy hand clasp his shoulder. “Kid, don’t mess with her again. You can’t afford to tangle with the people she has backing her,” said Alexander.
“Could you please tell me who’s backing her?” Jeffrey asked, curiosity piqued.
“Mind your own business. Youll find out in time” Alexander had got it that the two were secretly married just now, so he couldn’t let the cat out of the bag.
Cynthia followed Darian back to Regalian Garden
Winnie had been anxiously waiting at the doorstep and bombarded Cynthia with questions the moment she saw her, “Are you alright, Mrs. Sullivan! You weren’t scared, were you? Were they rough with you?”
Cynthia’s heart filled with warmth. Ever since she’d married Liam Sullivan, the care and concern she’d received from everyone around her in these past few days overshadowed anything she’d ever gotten from her own father.
The dining room was already set, and Winnie served Cynthia a bowl of soup. “Here you go, Mrs. Sullivan. Have some soup to steady yourself” Touched, Cynthia took the bowl and sipped. Instantly, a wave of warmth enveloped her.
In just a few days, Winnie had grown truly fond of Cynthia–she was approachable, down–to–earth, and despite her youth, Winnie found herself treating Cynthia like her own daughter.
After finishing her meal, Cynthia went upstairs to rest. She had just finished her nightly routine when her phone lit up. Seeing the name on the screen sent a ripple of warmth through her heart.
Cynthia hadn’t even noticed how her attitude had transformed. The reticence, the indifference, they were gone. Her heart now harbored a trace of
sweetness.
